Fine Art Asia at Twenty: Transformative Exhibitions Unveiled
<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Following its landmark 20th edition, Fine Art Asia 2025<\/strong> will make its highly anticipated return this autumn. The fair will take place in Hall 1E of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from Saturday 4 October to Tuesday 7 October 2025, with an exclusive VIP Preview on Friday 3 October.<\/p>\n

Since its establishment in 2006, Fine Art Asia<\/strong> has rapidly gained a reputation as the region\u2019s most distinguished annual fine art fair. The fair presents museum-quality artworks spanning more than 5,000 years of cultural history, featuring a carefully curated selection of exquisite antiques from East and West, fine craftsmanship, contemporary art, and designer jewellery.<\/p>\n

In a bold step forward, the 2025 edition will unveil two major new exhibiting sections, reflecting the growing trend of cross-collecting and further expanding the fair\u2019s dynamic scope.<\/p>\n

CRAFT Now<\/strong>
\u201cCRAFT Now\u201d<\/strong> makes its debut as a celebration of contemporary crafts of exceptional artistic and collectable value. This curated showcase brings together esteemed galleries, with a particular focus on innovative artisans from across Asia. Many of these makers are formally recognised for their mastery of traditional techniques and honoured as preservers of intangible cultural heritage by national or cultural authorities.<\/p>\n

While the \u201cCRAFT Now Pavilion<\/strong>\u201d, curated by Susanna Pang of the Contemporary Crafts Centre, is further enriched by the expertise of veteran curator Ying Jian and the accomplished consultant in the fields of craft and design Eva Qian Li. With its emphasis on playful designs and high artistic value, the pavilion aims to engage a new generation of collectors and to elevate the appreciation of contemporary craft within the wider art community.<\/p>\n

An exciting programme of events \u2014 including artist meet-and-greets, a contemporary Japanese tea ceremony and thought-provoking panel discussions \u2014 will run throughout the five-day exhibition.<\/p>\n

Back on Paper
<\/strong>Spanning approximately 150 square meters, the \u201cBack on Paper<\/strong>\u201d pavilion offers a serene and contemplative space devoted to the artistry of works on paper. This thoughtfully curated pavilion presents 30-50 exceptional pieces that traverse geographies and centuries, inviting collectors and connoisseurs to engage with the medium in its most intimate form.<\/p>\n

Among the highlights are masterful ukiyo-e woodblock prints by Utagawa Kuniyoshi<\/em> (1797-1861) and Tsukioka Yoshitoshi<\/em> (1839-1892), created during the pinnacle of Edo-period printmaking; a delicate
scretching by Pierre-Auguste Renoir<\/em> (1841-1919), whose Impressionist sensibility captures the fleeting grace of Parisian life; and striking lithographs by Joan Mir\u00f3<\/em> (1893-1983) and Zao Wou-Ki<\/em> (1921-2013), produced in the 1960s and 1970s, reflecting the bold experimentation of modernism across cultures.<\/p>\n

The pavilion also pays homage to Robert Hatfield Ellsworth<\/em> (1929\u20132014), the distinguished American scholar, dealer, and collector whose legacy shaped Western appreciation of Asian art. A selection of rare books from his personal collection will be on display, offering a glimpse into his lifelong dedication to cross-cultural dialogue and the preservation of artistic heritage.<\/p>\n

With its focus on deepening art appreciation, the pavilion will host a panel discussion featuring Yan Yan, founder and curator of the Wangye Museum, who possesses a diverse private collection of works on paper, alongside renowned Chinese ink artist Lin Guocheng<\/em> (b. 1979). The discussion will offer valuable insights into the significance and versatility of works on paper, further enriching the audience\u2019s understanding of this intimate and enduring medium.<\/p>\n

To mark Fine Art Asia<\/strong>\u2019s milestone 20th anniversary, Boogie Woogie Photography<\/strong> proudly presents “20\/20 VISION<\/strong>“. This specially curated exhibition features the works of 20 iconic artists, including Roger Ballen<\/em> (b. 1950), Fan Ho<\/em> (1931-2016), Nobuyoshi Araki<\/em> (b. 1940), displayed prominently throughout the fair’s public areas. In addition to the photographic works, a selection of related books by Devedo<\/strong> will also be available for purchase, offering collectors and enthusiasts further insight into the featured artists and their practice.<\/p>\n

In the ninth edition of their annual “Tribute Series”, The Ink Society presents “A Tribute to Wang Dongling<\/strong>” at Fine Art Asia 2025<\/strong>, to honour the pioneering achievements of China\u2019s pre-eminent contemporary artist calligrapher. Born in 1945 in Rudong, Jiangsu, Wang Dongling learnt from many 20th-century calligraphy masters and became a sworn disciple of the \u201ccursive sage\u201d Lin Sanzhi (1898-1989) in the late 1960s.<\/p>\n

Well-versed in all calligraphic scripts, Wang was invited to teach in the United States in 1989 and spent four years abroad. This experience expanded his cultural horizons and also motivated him to modernise calligrapher for a contemporary audience beyond China. After ceaseless exploration and diligent practice, Wang invented an original form of his own, the \u201centangled script\u201d, which unleashes the full emotional power of calligraphic lines beyond textual legibility and meaning.<\/p>\n

Upon the artist\u2019s 80th birthday, this exhibition surveys Wang\u2019s inventive career and still transforming practice of over half a century with a selection of works spanning from the 1990s to today.<\/p>\n

Renowned Chinese calligrapher Wang Dongling (b. 1945), celebrated for his experimental and large-scale abstract compositions, will join a panel discussion hosted by The Ink Society and present a live demonstration of his monumental calligraphy.<\/p>\n

CHINI Gallery, Taipei<\/strong> has been invited to present a selection of sculptures by renowned Taiwanese artist Lee Kuang-Yu (b. 1954) as a public art installation in the Lounge area. Lee is celebrated for his distinctive sculptural aesthetic, characterised by signature techniques such as \u201cpiercing\u201d, which disrupt the closed forms of traditional sculpture. Through this approach, he crafts a unique formal and conceptual language rooted in emptiness.<\/p>\n

His works evoke the essence of the \u201cEastern void,\u201d where boundaries between self and object dissolve. They offer not only profound visual impact but also a meditative reflection on the human condition, resonating with contemporary social themes.<\/p>\n
