Looking ahead to emerging artistic directions and a new generation of collectors, this segment is divided into two parts: the pavilion, curated by the Contemporary Crafts Centre, will showcase outstanding works by award-winning artisans from across Asia, while the \u201cCRAFT Now\u201d selected gallery section will highlight renowned galleries from the region. Visitors can look forward to an immersive experience, exploring a dynamic landscape where traditional Asian craftsmanship, intangible cultural heritage, and contemporary style intersect.<\/p>\n

Back on Paper<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Back on Paper is a major pavilion at Fine Art Asia 2025, dedicated to celebrating the enduring beauty and diversity of works on paper. This pavilion invites collectors to explore masterpieces spanning eras and continents\u2014from East to West and from historical to contemporary, encompassing a wide range of forms, including drawings, sketches, prints, multiples, books, and more. Highlights include iconic artists such as Japanese ukiyo-e master Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797\u20131861), French Impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841\u20131919), Spanish Surrealist Joan Mir\u00f3 (1893\u20131983), and Chinese ink master Zao Wou-Ki (1921\u20132013). The pavilion also features the esteemed collection of American collector Robert Hatfield Ellsworth (1929\u20132014) and works by celebrated contemporary Chinese ink artist Lin Guocheng (b. 1979). Through its remarkable breadth, the pavilion offers visitors a journey through the cultural and artistic history of works on paper.<\/p>\n

In the ninth edition of their annual “Tribute Series”, the Ink Society presents “A Tribute to Wang Dongling” at Fine Art Asia 2025 to honour the pioneering acheivements of China’s pre-eminent contemporary calligrapher. Born in 1945 in Rudong, Jiangsu, Wang Dongling learnt from many 20th cenutry calligraphy masters and became a sworn disciple of the “cursive sage” Lin Sanzhi during his days as a university student at the Nanjing Normal University in the late 1960s. Well-versed in all calligraphic scripts, Wang was invited to teach in America in 1989 and spent four years abroad. The experience expanded his cultural horizons and also motivated him to modernize calligrapher for a contemporary audience beyond China. After ceaseless exploration and diligent practice, Wang invented an original form of his own, the ‘entangled script’, which unleashes the full emotional power of calligraphic lines beyond textual legibility and meaning. Upon the artist’s 80th birthday, this exhibition surveys Wang’s inventive career and still transforming practice of over half a century with a selection of works spanning from the 1990s to today.<\/p>\n

To expand the boundaries of artistic expression, Fine Art Asia 2025 proudly presents the specially curated project \u201cink+,\u201d bringing together over ten distinguished artists from Hong Kong and Mainland China, each showcasing unconventional interpretations of ink art. By thoughtfully reimagining traditional ink aesthetics and philosophies, these artists employ non-traditional media, including video, new media, and kinetic installations, to create works that are both visually striking and deeply rooted in the literati spirit. The exhibition also embraces cutting-edge technologies such as interactive sensors and artificial intelligence (AI), offering a fresh perspective on the evolving language of contemporary ink art.<\/p>\n

Curated by the seasoned scholar and veteran curator Eric Leung, this exhibition explores the theme \u201cunenlightened,\u201d delving into the intricate interplay between reality and illusion. Participating artists include Chan Kwan Lok, Huang Ji, Jonathan Kan Yi Shing, Peng Wei, Qiu Anxiong, The Five Leisure Artists in the Bamboo Grove (Deng Minjie, Lei Ting, Wu Jiaman, Wu Yiming, Xu Shuzhen), as well as Tse Chun Sing, Wang Ziyi, and Wei Ligang. Through a rich diversity of creative approaches, these artists offer unique perspectives on the complexities of matters in the human world, presenting a compelling reimagining of ink art that challenges convention and expands its expressive possibilities.<\/p>\n
